Goal
Make photo-taking easy for people who freeze up in front of a camera. Most posing apps just show you a gallery of ideas and leave the hard part to you: actually recreating the pose. The goal with mimic was to close that gap by putting the reference directly over the live camera, so lining up a good shot takes seconds instead of a dozen retakes. Ship a focused, distraction-free product to the App Store rather than a feature-heavy one.
why mimic
I made mimic to answer a question I kept asking myself: with AI moving this fast, how far can a designer actually go on their own? So I picked a project full of animations, interactions, and fun little moments, and took it all the way from sketch to a live app.
How it came together
It came together nicely. A few rounds of refinement got the design fundamentals in place, and from there the app started to emerge on its own. I set the design rules myself and paired with AI on building it and shaping ideas, the whole thing rooted in a problem I actually had.
The app is still waiting for Apple’s approval. Turns out, AI can speed up quite a lot of things, but apparently not App Store review times.
Hopefully, it’ll be up on the App Store very soon.
